St. Margaret's Caps League Season With 55-14 Win Over CC Santa Ana
The Tartans finish up 5-1 in the Orange Coast League.
The Tartan football program wrapped up league play Friday with a commanding 55-14 win over visiting Calvary Chapel Santa Ana. St. Margaret's will finish at 5-1 (6-4 overall), tied for first place in the Orange Coast League and earned a berth in the CIF-SS Div. IX postseason.
St. Margaret's was led offensively by quarterback Max Ruff, who had a near-perfect completion rate, throwing for 19/20 with 235 yards and 4 touchdowns. Running back Matt Arena rushed for 127 yards on 12 carries with 4 touchdowns, while receiver Will Viola hauled in 5 catches for 73 yards and touchdowns. Russell Frye (5 catches, 50 yds, 1 TD) and Maverick Young (6 catches, 88 yds, 1 TD) eluded the Eagles' secondary all evening. Nathaniel Kim was perfect on PATs, booting 5 for 5.
Defensively, the Tartans received big games from Battle Gideons (10 tackles), Reece Ballard (6 tackles), Angel Cruz-Sanchez (5 tackles) and Leo Curran (4 tackles). Luke Newman pulled down an interception to keep CC Santa Ana out of the endzone.
