Student Achievements: Musical Collaborations, Chemistry Competitions and More!

St. Margaret’s students have been recognized for their academic and artistic achievements recently, honored and showcased in chemistry, music, visual arts and more.

Here’s a look at some recent achievements:
 
 
Music Students Collaborate With Professional Musicians
Upper School and Middle School choral and orchestra students recently collaborated with The Master Chorale of Saddleback Valley as part of a spring concert which took place at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church. The collaborations included the St. Margaret’s Church Choir, the St. Margaret’s Middle and Upper School Highlander Chorale and Upper School Orchestra. The program showcased an array of musical selections, including Vivaldi’s “Gloria in D Major,” Z. Randall Stroop’s “Amor de Mi Alma,” and Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus.” 
 
“We delight in offering performing arts beyond school, enriching classroom experiences,” St. Margaret’s choral director Adela Kwan said. “Students cherish performing alongside pros and seasoned artists.”
 
 
Chemistry Competitions
Upper School chemistry students have recently competed in chemistry competitions with successful showings.
                     
Upper School junior Andrew Rusli advanced to the national round of the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO), a multi-tiered chemistry competition for high school students. He qualified by placing in the top 11 in the Orange County event, out of 179 participants.
 
At another competition, the First Year Chemistry Competion hosted by the Orange County American Chemical Society, a St. Margaret’s team of Riley Bredall, Amy Yao, Val Karmis, Cyrus Sadati, Luke Meggers, Austin Kang, Lucas Monge and Jeson Zhang placed fifth in the team competition. The OCACS First Year Chemistry Competition brought together more than 200 students from 31 schools across the county.
 
 
OC Artist of the Year Semifinalists
Upper School seniors Riley Harrison (film and TV) and Jack Justus (theater) were both named semifinalists in the Orange County Register’s Artist of the Year program.
 
Riley and Jack were among 20 St. Margaret’s nominees in a variety of performing arts and visual arts categories. Click here to view the entire list of nominees from St. Margaret’s.
 
 
Middle School Student Recognized by Young Writers Project
Middle School student Kynzie Grogan recently won a spring contest award by the Young Writers Project, an online community for teenagers to share written and visual artwork. Her artwork was among three visual arts winners of the spring contest, and was featured in the community’s magazine.
