St. Margaret's Girls Tennis and Volleyball Programs Continue to Roll

The Tartans kept their unbeaten streaks alive with positive mid-season results.
The Tartan girls tennis and volleyball teams notched key wins this week as league competition ramps up.
 
Girls Tennis
 
St. Margaret's downed non-league foe Mission Viejo 18-0 Tuesday to improve to 4-0 on the year.
 
Kate Purpura, Angela Liu and Rylee Carlson won all three of their singles sets played. The doubles team of Caitlin Roberts and Emily Kim were victorious in their three sets at Mission Viejo High.
 
"This match was our toughest challenge of the season, and the girls responded very well," said head coach Scott Lipsky. "There were some close doubles sets, but we figured out how to win the bigger points. It was a great team effort from everyone."
 
The Tartans will next face Santa Ana on the road on Wednesday, September 18. League play commences for St. Margaret's on September 26 against Portola High School.
 
Girls Volleyball
 
The Tartans kicked off Pacific Coast League competition with a win, defeating Northwood 3-1 Tuesday evening.
 
St. Margaret's had to mount a comeback in game 2, down early 8-15 and later 11-17 to a strong Timberwolves squad. The Tartans dug in and clawed back to close a 25-22 win.
 
Exceptional team serving again led the way for St. Margaret's, with the Tartans acheiving 96% efficiency with 9 aces against 4 errors. Sarah MacDonald led with 3 aces, with Ella Massoudi and Sami Duran notching 22 and 15 kills, respectively. MacDonald also had 5 kills out of the setting position on a variety of jousts and dumps.
 
St. Margaret's (9-5) takes on Irvine High School in a league contest on September 19, at Irvine.
