Tartans Shine In Sensational Revue’s Show-Stopping Performance

The Arts at St. Margaret’s showcased the 2025 Tartan Revue in Hurlbut Theater, a one-night-only show-stopping performance.
Last week, The Arts at St. Margaret’s showcased the 2025 Tartan Revue in Hurlbut Theater, a one-night-only performance that included a collaborative opener with the entire Tartan Dance Company and House Band, culminating in a powerful finale by Tessa Maryott ‘25.

With 23 student performances, the event included a variety of acts. There were dance pieces, vocalists, instrumentalists, original music, and even a drum solo to “Kascade” by Ryan Chin ‘26. The audience was treated to the soulful sounds of Bryan Wu ‘27 singing Stevie Wonder’s “Overjoyed” to junior Sienna Ganem’s "Hallelujah," by Leonard Cohen and junior Fiona Bonilla Duncan’s “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse. Masters of Ceremonies seniors Lynden Kim and Link Canchola set the tone with humor and wit.

Tartan Dance Company seniors Grace Allen, Tori Clark, Addi Griffin, and Tessa Maryott performed to “Nothing New” and senior vocalists harmonized on “For Good” from Wicked. Instrumentalists including sophomores Brendan Lyons (drums) and Von Lundin (electric guitar) performed Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing.” The music lineup spanned genres and eras—from the classical mastery of Sunny Chen ’27 performing a piece by Frederic Chopin to a violin solo by Allie Dandel ’25 of “Elements” by Lindsey Stirling. Heidi Beshk ’28 sang the country song, “Wide Open Spaces” and Brayden Brisbois ’27 crooned “Feeling Good” with a big band accompaniment including his own trumpet solo. A trio of Mac Ullem ‘26, Griffin Illenberger ‘27 and Kevin Hasani ‘26 rocked to “Don’t Stop Me Now” while Grace Burke ’25 sang “Creep” by Radiohead. Other highlights included Richard Feng ’26 with Carmen Variations, Greta Blau ’25 with an operatic “Laurie’s Song”, a playful dance performance by Paige Minton’ 26 of “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” and traditional Chinese music performed by Anna Feng ‘27.

The lighting designed by Gavin Shams ‘26 set the mood for each performance. The Performing Arts Center sound upgrade enhanced the experience for the audience. In addition, the addition of haze created a concert atmosphere. The House Band powerhouse performance (Daniel Lyons, Martin Turnbull, Von Lundin, Henry Reising, Ryan Chin, Allie Dandel, Alisa Jiang, Helen Zhang, Eddie Leigh, Chris Tang, and Celia Xu) supported the performers and featured some of its own talented band members onstage.

Band Director Chris Carbajal orchestrated the music and directed the show. He said, “The students really elevated our show in a way that exceeded my expectations. They produced a professional-level performance and should be very proud.”

Under the direction of Technical Director Gordon Richins and PAC Production Assistant Justice Musick-Corson, junior RJ Canchola led the technical crew and helped ensure smooth transitions between performances.

After enjoying the production, Director of the Arts Dan Pacheco said, “Chris’s direction and his orchestrations were incredible. The new sound system really shined. Gavin Shams’ lighting was spectacular. It was an impressive array of cross-disciplinary performances.”
