Tartan Football Triumphs Over Argonauts 38-8
St. Margaret's was indomitable in the one-sided win this past weekend.
St. Margaret's football team found the “golden fleece” of a crucial league victory Friday, sinking the Garden Grove Argonauts 38-8. The 1-3 (league) Tartans look to close out a tough Kappa League season this week against 0-4 Westminster.
The Tartans got on the board early with quarterback Kai Letcher (30-42-2, 407 yds, 4 tds) connecting with Will Viola (10-167, 2 tds) for a 70-yard touchdown strike. St. Margaret's found the endzone again four minutes later, with Letcher throwing to Maverick Young for an 8-yard touchdown. Mason Allison made a 35-yard field goal to put the Tartans up 17-0 at the half. Letcher continued to roll in the second half, throwing for two more touchdowns to Viola and Luke Newman (10-86, 1 td) while Reece Ballard (3-25, 1 td) punched one in on the ground to seal it for the Tartans.
The Tartan defense limited the Argonauts to just 9 first downs and 194 total yards in the game. Led by Jack Klausner (5 solo, 9 assists) and Sebastian Salazar (1 solo, 7 assists), St. Margaret's controlled the tempo all evening. Ryan Chin and Sam Ludlum added sacks to keep the Argonauts grounded.
"What a special night on Tartan Field honoring our graduating seniors - players, cheerleaders, and team managers," said head coach Dan O'Shea. "This phenomenal group of students has embodied everything we want to be while showing remarkable leadership to the classes that will follow. On the field, Kai Letcher and his offensive teammates were electric from start to finish while the defense shut down the vaunted running game that Garden Grove has been known for."
The Tartans will take on Westminster for homecoming on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
