St. Margaret's Boys Soccer Moves Past Monrovia in Thrilling Extra Time Finish

The Tartans outlasted the Wildcats 1-0 in the first round of the CIF postseason.
The Tartan boys soccer program picked up an impressive 1-0 first-round win against hosts Monrovia High School Wednesday afternoon to propel St. Margaret's into round 2 of the CIF-SS Div. V postseason.

St. Margaret's engaged in a physical and direct exchange with the Wildcats through two halves of play, with the Tartans generating numerous scoring chances and countering Monrovia's attempts. Goaltender Giovanni Voccola kept the Tartans alive with a clutch save late in the game.

Extra time proved to mirror the two previous halves as time was close to running out in the second extra period. A key opportunity presented itself in the Monrovia end as the Wildcats conceded a corner with five minutes left to play. Ronin McMahon swung in an exceptional ball to the back post that Mitchell Allison was able to get his head on and send to the back of the net to put the Tartans through to the next round.
