Tartan Spring Athletes Garner Postseason Awards

St. Margaret's student-athletes were at the top of their respective games this spring.
Fifteen St. Margaret's spring sport student-athletes and two coaches have been recognized for outstanding accomplishments in their respective sports this spring:
 
Boys Lacrosse
 
CIF Div. I/Orange County Player of the Year: Austin Hicks
 
The Duke University-bound attackman had 117 points on 90 goals and 27 assists this season and notched 18 goals in the three playoff games in the run-up to the Tartans' 2024 CIF-SS Div. I Championship.
 
CIF Div. I/Orange County Coach of the Year: Brian Kelly
 
Coach Kelly led St. Margaret's to a 20-2 record and its first CIF-SS Div. I Championship and first postseason title since 2019.

The Stanford University signee wrapped up an impressive career at St. Margaret's, leading the Tartans to the CIF-SS Div. III Title in 2024 and 2022, and a 2024 finals appearance in the CIF Southern California Regional Division II playoffs.
 
CIF Div. III/Orange County Coach of the Year: Bob Yoder
 
Coach Yoder guided the Tartans to 34-5 regular season record and their second CIF-SS Championship in three years. This is Yoder's second CIF-SS Coach of the Year award.

Boys Track & Field
 
Everett Capelle has been named an Orange County Athletic Directors Association 2024 Athlete of the Year. The OCADA selects a male and female athlete of the year for each Orange County league. Only seniors were eligible.
 
Capelle, headed to the University of California, Los Angeles in the fall, notched a CIF-SS Div. IV Championship in the 1600m this past May. In September last year, Capelle posted the fastest 3-mile time in St. Margaret's school history, running a swift 14:15 at the Woodbridge Cross Country Invitational in Irvine.
 
Everett completes an impressive career as a member of St. Margaret's cross country and track & field programs. Currently, Everett is the school record holder at 3 miles (14:05), which bests three former state and CIF champions, the school record holder at the CIF State Championship course by nearly 20 seconds and is No. 3 all-time in the 1600m (4:18) and the 3200m (9:08). Recently, Everett became the Orange Coast League record holder in the 1600m and the 3200m events and has been named 2024 League Track & Field Athlete of the Year and 2023-2024 Overall Athlete of the Year.
 
Everett's storied career highs include being named a three-time First Team All-State selection (2021-2023) and a three-time State Championship Qualifier. At the CIF-SS level, Everett is currently ranked No. 2 in the 1600m and No. 3 in the 3200m event. In the past two seasons, Everett was a runner-up at the 2022 and 2023 Southern Section Cross-Country Finals and Cross-Country First Team All-CIF selection in 2022 and 2023. 2022 saw Everett ran to the finals of the 1600m and 3200m in 2022, while 2021 had Everett named First-Team All-CIF in cross country and an appearance in the CIF-SS 3200m finals.

In Orange Coast League competition, Everett is currently ranked No. 1 in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m events. Everett is the 2024 OCL MVP in track & field and cross country and OCL champion in the 1600m, 3200m and 4x400m and cross-country.
