St. Margaret's boys soccer secured its first league win Friday.
St. Margaret's boys soccer program recorded its first Pacific Coast League victory with a 2-0 triumph over Woodbridge High.
The Tartans relied on stellar 1v1 defending and an improved defensive shape anchored by Mitchell Allison and Ethan Stolper. St. Margaret's minimized any chances the Warrior attack had generated throughout the game. Goalkeeper Mason Allison notched his first clean-sheet of the campaign.
Offensively, Lucas Monge and Angel Cruz-Sanchez's speed proved to be too much for Woodbridge's back line to contain, resulting in many dangerous opportunities and multiple quality chances for the Tartans. A high press and relentless pressure controlled by Michalis Karmis and Grayson Gallegos forced Woodbridge to commit defensive mistakes. Austin Stolper, Ryan Xu and Jayden Pelaes commanded the midfield, showing excellent composure and effective transition play.
The Tartans found the back of the net for the first time that afternoon on a brilliant 30-yard strike delivered by Austin Stolper, which was parried by the Woodbridge keeper straight to Angel Cruz-Sanchez, who slotted it home for a 1-0 lead. Mitchell Allison secured the win for St. Margaret's with an aerial attack off a set-piece later in the game.
The 1-2-3 Tartans hope to take this win's momentum into a crucial league tie with a tough Irvine side on Friday, Dec. 20.
