Boys Volleyball Digs Deep to Overcome St. Joseph in CIF Regional Playoffs

The Tartans picked up a gritty round one win.
St. Margaret's boys volleyball rolled straight from a CIF Southern Section Championship to CIF State Regional Play, winning a first-round matchup against St. Joseph of Santa Maria 3-2 on Tuesday.

The Tartans staged a tremendous comeback against a determined and prepared Knights squad, weathering the storm of a furious back-and-forth battle. After losing tight games in both the first (22-25) and second (24-26) sets, St. Margaret's had solid wins in the 3rd (25-15) and 4th (25-20) sets. St. Joseph would not go out quietly, jumping to an 11-9 lead before the Tartans buckled down and pulled out the 15-12 win.

Reed Wainwright had 29 kills, followed by Beckett Harvey and Luke Balint, who each had 10 kills.

The Tartans will face a familiar foe, San Clemente, in the regional semifinal, having dispatched the Tritons 3-0 in the CIF-SS Div. III Championship this past Saturday. That game is slated for Thursday, May 15; game time and location are TBA.
