St. Margaret’s Celebrates Lunar New Year With Activities and Education
St. Margaret celebrated Lunar New Year this week welcoming the year of the dragon with fun and educational activities.
St. Margaret celebrated Lunar New Year this week welcoming the year of the dragon, with activities including Chapel homilies by the Upper School’s AAPI affinity group and a phenomenal program showcasing traditional Chinese drums, signature face changing performance and dancing dragons.
In The Upper School, students Charlotte Jiang and Angela Liu from the AAPI Affinity Group lead a Chapel homily about Lunar New Year, followed by a red envelope distribution. Traditionally, red envelopes symbolize prosperity, good wishes and luck for the new year ahead.
The Middle School, Lower School and Early School students enjoyed a captivating performance by The Shaolin Entertainment Group who captured the students’ attention with its lion dancing, and Junliang Su who did a crowd-pleasing face-changing performance. The students also received red gift bags at the conclusion of the program.
The Lunar New Year is celebrated around the world, and is also referred to as the Spring Festival in many cultures. The holiday lasts 15 days until the first full moon of the Lunar Calendar, and its start date ranges from January 21 to February 20.
Thank you to the Tartan parents who helped organize this amazing celebration!
