PFW Students in the Lower School Preview Middle School Athletics Through Cross-Divisional Connection
Students in grade 5 had the opportunity to visit Middle School athletic practices for either flag football, cross country or girls volleyball.
The Lower School’s personal fitness and wellness curriculum for grades 3-5 includes developing skills in the team sports offered to students when they enter Middle School at St. Margaret’s.
This year, grade 5 students received a valuable preview—thanks to Middle School student-athletes and coaches who welcomed them to a recent practice.
As the fall sports season winds down, students in grade 5 had the opportunity to visit Middle School athletic practices for either flag football, cross country or girls volleyball.
The Middle School athletic coaches in all three sports collaborated with the Lower School personal fitness and wellness teachers to plan a fun and engaging practice, where grade 5 students and grade 6 students could train together.
“The schedules aligned perfectly for us to be able to do this,” Lower School personal fitness and wellness teacher Jennifer Cuda said. “The intention for this crossover is to give Lower School students a closer look into what athletics will look like for them in Middle School.”
The plan is for this cross-divisional connection to take place during the winter and spring athletics season as well.
Middle School students have the option of playing a sport or enrolling in the division’s personal fitness and wellness class. St. Margaret’s Middle School athletics program includes flag football, cross country, boys and girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, golf, boys and girls lacrosse, soccer and track and field.
