“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes and their ability to balance high athletic and academic expectations. Placing 12 teams in the top 10 of the CIF Southern Section is a difficult task, and it could not be accomplished without the tremendous support of our community," said St. Margaret's Director of Athletics Patrick Bendzick. "The collaboration between our students, parents, faculty and administration makes St. Margaret’s a special place. It allows our students to pursue lofty goals and we are incredibly grateful.”
To receive recognition, teams must have a combined minimum 3.0 GPA average in the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year. Teams with the highest GPAs in each sport determine awardees. Schools are divided into two enrollment categories, 1500 and above and 1499 and below. St. Margaret's teams were among 1,852 entries for the 2016-2017 award.
